The School Bureau for Cooperation Career Counselling and Project Support organizes in PWSZ an annual, day-long fair hosting between 30 to 50 companies from various sectors of the labour market attended by a couple thousand of students and a number of local citizens.
Objective: attendees have the chance to meet the prospective employers first hand and discuss e.g. their recruitment procedures, skills required, etc.
What resources are required for the case?Consider human resources, financial resources, infrastructure, in-kind resources and any other type required.
The main factor needed is institutional support and close continuous cooperation with the labour market to ensure companies are interested in organizing stands at the fairs.
It is also important to make the students realize it is vital to recognise the possible opportunities at the labour market before making the choice of a career.
What are the enabling factors making this case successful?Consider institutional support, environmental/social/political factors, etc.
The main factors determining the success of the fairs are:
- making students aware of the value of the opportunity to discuss their possible career paths with prospective employers
- close cooperation with local/regional labour market
- adjusting programmes of studies to the needs of the labour market
- prestige of the HEI
Why do you consider this case to be good/best practice?Please consider that a best practice must (a) have a clearly defined objective to increase the connection with the World of Work, (b) address the target groups of the project, (c) be replicable and sustainable, (d) have clearly demonstrated evidence of effectiveness in increasing the connection with the World of Work
The data gathered at the School Bureau for Cooperation Career Counselling and Project Support show that many graduates find employment at the companies that have been taking part in the Fairs.
