Higher Vocational College Slovenj Gradec
Our college devotes much attention to quality and in addition takes care of quality assurance at our institution, we are involved in the proliferation of quality throughout the PHE area. In our education programmes the cooperation with employers has a key position as in the work environment students gain a significant share of knowledge. The environment and employers cooperate closely and are important stakeholders in the formulation of proposals for new programmes and the implementation of curricula.
We find it is very important that students acquire appropriate knowledge and competence expected by employers, so we see potential for improvement in this area and consequently increase the employability of our graduates by participating in the project. We are also interested, what are the procedures and tools for evaluation and self-evaluation in other countries, so we expect from and from the experience of others to be able to learn a lot and to implement the learned evaluation procedures in the Slovenian PHE area.
Higher Vocational College for Hospitality and Tourism Bled

Higher Vocational College for Hospitality and Tourism Bled was founded in 1996 as one of the first higher education institutions in Slovenia. The College boasts with more than 1300 graduates who contribute substantially to the success of Slovenian tourism and hospitality industry. In academic year 2014/15 there are 450 students of which two thirds in Hospitality and Tourism programme, and one third in Wellness programme. In the first year of study all the available places in regular study are taken, which means about 200 students and there are also 25 part-time students. Strong interest in studying at the Higher Vocational College for Hospitality and Tourism Bled proves that the College has been developing successfully and gained high reputation among young people and in professional public.
Mission of the Higher Vocational College for Hospitality and Tourism Bled is high quality education and training of people for jobs in hospitality and tourism, and additional development of competences in the school hotel in accordance with the needs and development tendencies of economy. According to the vision of the school “… in the years to come we will be building on the tradition of education in tourism and become a reputable higher education centre for quality lifelong education and training in the field of service activities, known also internationally. We will be known for our genuine relationships among the employees and students.
The school premises are very well equipped, ensuring quality teaching process for both, students and teachers, and other employees. A component part of the institute is also a special organisational unit B2B education centre. School Hotel Astoria operates within it and higher education students undergo their practical training there. Practical training is available also to students from other schools.
The college is participating in the project:
- for further development and active cooperation in an international project;
- for evaluation and insight into best practices of other institutions;
- for further development and training of own HR;
- to improve the quality of education provided;
- to compare educational systems at tertiary level abroad.

By participating in the pilot project AMEU-ECM will gain additional experience that will be exchanged with other partners in the project, and thus improve its methodology. The case studies of good practices will help AMEU-ECM to identify the strengths and areas for further development, in particular we expect that the participation in the project will contribute to the optimization of the appropriate tools for self-evaluation, which AMEU-ECM efforts in the implementation of its study programmes.
