Please describe the case in detail

In particular please consider (a)Objectives of the intervention; (b) Tools used to achieve the project goals; (c) Methodologies applied;

We are organising different courses for organisations and individuals out of our regular study programs. There is an Educational centre in our college, which supports lifelong learning. Each year we publish an invitation for courses in informatics (Microsoft office), foreign languages, business communication and others. There is a lot of interest especially for informatics and German.
According to the inquiry, we implement courses with our lecturers.
More than half of graduates, included in the survey 2014, expressed the intention to cooperate with our college also in the future; they would like to engage in professional courses, seminars and workshops organized by our higher vocational college and one third in seminars for personal growth.
We organised several courses recently with our lecturers:
- Successful interpersonal communication for the company Gozdno gospodarstvo (Wood industry) Slovenj Gradec (for four groups, each with 20 participants; almost half of all employees),
- Business German (at least two groups with 15 participants per year),
- Office, Excel - advanced (at least two groups with 15 participants per year),
- Accountancy (one group with at least 10 participants per year).
We organized also courses for citizens of our region Carintia in cooperation with other companies, for instance Course for the boat leaders and for Managing of VHF GMDSS (Global Maritime Distress and Safety System).

What resources are required for the case?

Consider human resources, financial resources, infrastructure, in-kind resources and any other type required.

For the case we need Course's coordinator (Leader of Educational centre) and lecturers (financial resources for the compensation of their extra work).

What are the enabling factors making this case successful?

Consider institutional support, environmental/social/political factors, etc.

The institution support extra activities for the costumers outside the HVC, which is good promotion of the school and also for lifelong learning of our graduates and other stakeholders.
We live in very small and geographically dislocated region with poor traffic connection to bigger cities. If citizens from our region want to go to University centres or towns with rich education possibilities, they need more than one hour drive to the first city. Bringing courses near their homes and job locations means saving time and money for them.
Comparing with the total number of our students, participants in courses represents at least one quarter of students population each year.
The consequence of well-executed courses for companies is also that companies in the environment more appreciate our institution and at the same time our graduates.

Why do you consider this case to be good/best practice?

Please consider that a best practice must (a) have a clearly defined objective to increase the connection with the World of Work, (b) address the target groups of the project, (c) be replicable and sustainable, (d) have clearly demonstrated evidence of effectiveness in increasing the connection with the World of Work

The objective is to get recognised as excellent educational institution in the region and support WoW with possibilities to develop their human resources in their own region/town.
