Explanation of the Criterion

How and to which extend does PHE integrate with its respective region/s, how does it contribute to its/their development. The emphasis should focus on systemic approach to the identification and definition of relevant region(s) and/or community(ies) the PHE institution and/or programme(s) serves, systemic approach to understanding its/their needs, communication and addressing those needs in the most effective and efficient way which brings benefits to both the region/community and the PHE institution, its academic community including students and contributes to the position and perception of the PHE institution.

Suggested questions to be used in self-assessment of the insitution

Does your institution have a policy/procedure concerning regional integration?
How do you identify and define the key region and/or community your institution and/or various study programmes serve?
How are relevant requirements and expectations of the community monitored, how are external challenges and developments monitored and translated into institutional/programmatic policies, strategies, actions and their review?
How systemic is the partnership and communication with key stakeholders and representatives of the region and/or communities?
Who are in charge of such process?
What is a role of various levels of institutional/programme leaders?
How are academic staff members engaged in that?
How are these conclusions translated into activities?
How are the plans and objectives monitored and reviewed? What is the learning point for improvement?
What is the role of the regional WoW representatives in development and/or implementation of regional engagement plans and activities?
What is the role of students in development and/or implementation of regional engagement plans and activities?
Are staff members informed and aware of the regional development policies and activities? How are they engaged?

Indicators

Measurable indicators of quality which could be integrated within the institution

List of various education, training, research and development and other activities serving the development of the region and/or community
Documentation on results and achievement of activities focused on regional development
Availability of the list of key challenges and threats, capacity of school to address these within the policy and/or strategy
Feedback & Review of policy and/or strategy plans regarding the regional development and their correspondence to the regional and community requirements
Presenting policies, plans and achievements regarding regional development activities to the partners, stakeholders, beneficiaries’ representatives and their recognition of such plans and achievement
Perception of the PHE institution by external stakeholders as regards its community engagement

Sub-Criteria

Measurable indicators of quality which could be integrated within the institution

There is a clear identification and understanding of the region(s) served by the institution or programme(s)
The policy and strategy is driven by an active and long-term engagement with the community within the region. There is a clear understanding of the needs of the community within the relevant region(s).
Institutions set up, maintain and constantly develop structural community partnerships.
The policy and strategy includes systemic and coherent set of various regional development activities corresponding to the mission and role of the institution or its programme(s)
